Study of success rate of external dacryocystorhinostomy in patients of chronic dacryocystitis - A hospital based study

Abstract :
Purpose – To study success rate of external dacryocystorhinostomy in patients of chronic dacryocystitis. Material and methods – Our study was a prospective, observational, hospital based study of 60 patients suffering from chronic dacryocystitis. All patients underwent a detailed comprehensive ocular examination and underwent external dacryocystorhinostomy surgery. Postoperative complications were noted and MUNK score was used to evaluate success of external dacryocystorhinostomy. 48.3% patients presented with epiphora while 15% patients presented with sac swelling. Success rate of external dacryocystorhinostomy was found to be 95% and only 5% patients showed recurrence.
