IMPACT OF COGNITION ON SPEECH PERFORMANCE IN ELDERLY POPULATION

Abstract :
Abstract – It is of interest to reflect on what happens to our ain as we age. This question remain unanswered as there is lack of awareness regarding slow progressive issues of livelihood and little work has been carried out to differentiate various cognitive issues with aging. Objective – To differentiate normal ageing from cognitive declined population in terms of communication effectiveness. Method – 30 subjects in each group withPurposive sampling method was adapted for the subject selection in this study. The two groups were as follows: age range of 35 – 40 and 65 year and above years with subgroup of 15 with equal gender distribution and standardized tools were used for analysis. Result – There emerged significant differences with the entire discourse task in both the groups, except in paralinguistic skills. No significant differences in terms of stress, intonation and rate due to aging. However cognition declines in ageing
