Introduction Incidence of tuberculosis is greatest among those with weakened immunity, such as HIV and diabetes. The incidence of pulmonary TB has been stated to be higher in diabetics than nondiabetics globally in the available literature and many studies from India, reported the same. We conducted this study with an aim to study the clinical profile of pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetic patients. Material & Methods This study was conducted in the department of general medicine at a district level hospital of north India, primarily catering to rural population over a period of three years from June 2015 to June 2018. All the diagnosed cases of tuberculosis based on clinical, radiologic & laboratory parameters with comorbid diabetes with age over 18 years were included in the study Results There were a total of fifty patients in our series with pulmonary tuberculosis and coexistent diabetes mellitus, out of which 34 (68%) were males and the remaining 16 (32%) were females. The main complaint at presentation was cough (98%), evening rise of temperature (70%) & constitutional symptoms like anorexia, loss of weight & malaise (<50%). Conclusion In our series, the diabetics with pulmonary tuberculosis had lower zone involved in majority of cases with infiltrative lesions followed by cavitary lesions on chest radiography. These findings should be looked, for early diagnosis of tuberculosis in diabetic patients and diabetes in TB patients for early treatment and a better prognosis.
