Background: Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally.Also, cancer related ignorance, diagnosis at advanced stages of disease, cumbersome referral pathways and incomplete treatment regimens renders cancer control a challenging task. Aim: This interventional study is an effort to explore and increase the awareness of cancer in community of a periurban area of Chandigarh. Methods and material A team comprising of field workers educated anganwari Health workers and ANM about varied preventive aspects of cancer . Various educative video sessions were held . The subjects were reassessed again to find out the impact of the intervention. Results: Subjects in community could relate more among symptoms of cervical cancer to post menopausal bleeding 450(63.3). As regards symptoms of breast cancer, weight loss was responded by majority. Conclusion: It is inferred that interventions delivered to community does raise cancer awareness .
