Background : Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is an effective way to meet baby’s needs for warmth, breastfeeding, protection from infection, stimulation, safety and love .Objective :To assess the change in knowledge of antenatal women regarding Kangaroo Mother Care(KMC) after explaining process and its benefits. Methodology: An educational interventional study on 55 antenatal women attending OPD of UTHC of Nalanda Medical College, Patna was done from June 2015 to September 2015. A predefined questionnaire was used for the study. Appropriate statistical tests were used whenever required and the result was calculated. Results: Post intervention, the knowledge regarding all variables have significantly improved, e.g KMC can be given to LBW baby (41.8% to 94.5%), time of initiation (from 43.6% to 90.9%), clothing and positioning of mother (from 5.4% to 92.7% and 3.6% to 94.5%),breastfeeding possible while giving KMC (63.6% to 100%). Conclusions: The knowledge related to various aspects of the practice of KMC was significantly improved after the intervention. There should be adequate training of staff on KMC.
