Study Of Lip Prints Among The Gujarati Population For Personal Identification

Abstract :

Aim of study: The aim of this study is to assess the distribution of patterns of lip prints among males, females, twins and to evaluate the uniqueness of lip print pattern. Materials: A4 size white papers, dark coloured lip sticks and magnifying lens. Method: The present study was conducted on 200 under graduate students belonging to Gujarat region of B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad–16.The study group was grouped in to 5 groups (South Gujarat, North Gujarat, West Gujarat, Central Gujarat, Kutch). Each group consists of 40 students. Dark coloured lip stick was applied thoroughly on clean lips of the individuals and lip prints were taken on the A4 size white paper. Lip prints were studied by using magnifying lens and classified according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification. Results: The results of the study revealed that the lip print patterns for each individual were unique and there was no peculiar pattern distribution among male and female subjects. Most common single lip print pattern was Type I� and Type IV was least common. Conclusion: Since the lip print patterns are unique, lip print analysis can be considered as a tool for personal identification and we can set norms that which type of lip print is more common in study region.
