Abstract :
BACKGROUND: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common cause of mortality and morbidity affecting all age groups and all sexes but more common in female patients with observed data more than 150 million cases occurring worldwide. Resistance to antibiotics is highly prevalent in bacterial isolates causing UTI. OBJECTIVES: To the isolation and identification of Gram–Positive Cocci causing UTIs and determine their susceptibility pattern to antibiotics. METHODS: This study was a cross–sectional study, a total of 1950 urine samples were processed from patients having clinically suspected Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) attending during January 2019 to December 2019, in NIMS Medical College and Hospital Jaipur. All clinical specimens were inoculated on routine culture media. Bacterial isolates were identified by conventional bacteriological methods. Susceptibility testing was performed by standard methods as recommended by the clinical laboratory standard institute. RESULTS: A total of 1950 suspected UTIs and out of 358 (18.35%) Gram–Positive Cocci, were culture positive. Among the 358 isolates of Gram–positive cocci, more common 205 (57.24%) were coagulase–negative Staphylococcus, 71 (19.86%) were Enterococcus spp.47 (13.10%) isolates were Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp. is less common 35 (9.8%). Total of 205 CONS, 92 (25.67%) were Staphylococcus epidermidis and 113 (31.57) isolates were Staphylococcus saprophyticus respectively. UTI caused by gram–positive uropathogens was seen in 253 (70.68%) females as compared to and 105 (29.32%) males. Most of the sensitivity antibiotics were Vancomycin, Linezolid, Teicoplanin, and Nitrofurantoin and more resistance antibiotics are Penicillin, Ciprofloxacin, and Amikacin in all kind of Gram–Positive Cocci. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that bacterial infection throughout Gram–Positive Cocci in a urinary pathogenic organism in hospital settings and its susceptible antimicrobial agents for empirical treatment.
