Anurag Singh Gautam, Dr. Ashutosh Kumar Pathak

Abstract :

According to Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on the Prevention Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC7) Prehypertension refers to a systolic blood pressure of 120 to 139 mmHg systolic or diastolic blood pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg. This paper aims to increase awareness of near–abnormal levels of BP so that such prehypertensives would make lifestyle changes like yoga, Pranayam, Talahridaya marma, and a specific diet to control further hypertension. In this paper we analyze published work related to the prevalence of prehypertension and its association with BMI and other cardiovascular diseases in both genders. 13 studies were included in this review from the year 2012 to 2018 among students of age 17 to 30 years. Studies reported the prevalence of prehypertension ranges from 1.6 % to 50%. A large number of prehypertension among college and school students in various studies justifies the need for blood pressure measurement and it would be more appropriate if integrated into school health programs.
