Abstract :
Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is an immunoinflammatory disease in which podocyte injury is observed due to the accumulation of inflammatory mediators, that leads to massive proteinuria. Inflammation in NS promotes higher level of reactive oxygen species. Previous evidences suggests mitochondrial damage, increased lipid peroxidation, and low antioxidant level precede proteinuria. Increased level of lipid peroxidation negatively correlates with albumin serum. Furthermore, dyslipidemia in NS potentially worsen preexisting oxidative stres. In terms of NS management, antioxidant supplementation might be considered as adjuvant therapy to suppress lipid peroxidation.
