Abstract :
BACKGROUND:
High Resolution Computerised Tomography (HRCT) is an effective and non–invasive modality to visualize the various patterns of Interstitial lung diseases. It provides excellent visualization of the lung parenchyma and interstitium.
PURPOSE:
The objective of our study was to study the various High resolution computerised tomography imaging findings in cases of interstitial lung diseases (ILD).
MATERIALS & METHODS:
HRCT of 60 patients with ILD were studied. All the CT scans were performed on Siemens Somatom Perspective (128 slice) machine.
RESULTS:
Of the 60 patients included in the study 25 patients showed features of Usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP),13 showed features of Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HSP),7 of Nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis (NSIP), 4 of Acute interstitial pneumonia, 6 of Cryptogenic pneumonia, 2 of Respiratory onchiolitis–ILD (RB–ILD), 2 of Desquamative interstitial pneumonia ( DIP) and1 of Sarcoidosis.
CONCLUSION:
Accurate analysis of lung pathologies is possible with HRCT. It is an excellent modality to correlate the clinical and imaging findings, helping us to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. Due to the non–invasive nature, short scan time and excellent visualization of the lung interstitium HRCT is a very effective modality for evaluation of various Interstitial lung diseases. It not only helps us to understand the stage of the disease and its prognosis but also helps us to formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
