Abstract :

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most commonly injured ligaments of the knee. Injuries occur predominantly in young and sports–active population. Many patients are left with significant pain and disability following injury to the ACL. ACL repair and reconstructive surgeries have high re– rupture rate. A randomised controlled trial was done in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for a period of 1 year from September 2017 to August 2018. Total 52 participants were divided into two groups– Group A received one intra– articular knee injection of Platelet Rich Plasma and Group B received Prolotherapy with 25% Dextrose. Assessments were done on VAS and Lysholm score at baseline, 1 week and 12 weeks. VAS improved from 6.88±0.76 at baseline to 3.26±0.66 at 12 weeks while Lysholm improved from 54.76±4.48 (poor)to 70.32±1.81 (normal score) at 12 weeks. There was no significant improvement in VAS and Lysholm score in Prolotherapy group (p>0.05).
