Abstract :

These are typically partial thickness burns. Study aimed at clinico demographic and outcome of acute paediatric scald burns Material and Method: Forty patients with scald burn less than 12 years of age, with less than 60% TBSA burns admitted under the burn care unit during Jan 2018 to Jan 2019 were included in the present study. Children suffering with electrical, chemical, flame burns and scald burns more than 60% TBSA were excluded from the study. Patients were categorized according to the patient‘s age and sex, length of hospital stay, percentage of burns, wound management and complications. Result: Total of 40 paediatric scald burns admitted in the burn care unit were followed up for the final outcome of burns. There were 23 male and 17 female children admitted during the period of study. Among them, 27 were below the age of 5 years. 72.5% of the children had <30% of the burn and 27.5% had more than 30% but less than 60% burn. The total survival rate was 92.5% and death rate was 7.5%. Conclusion: Majority of patient’s burn wounds healed well with collagen dressing. Few needed skin grafting after 3 weeks. For most of the paediatric scald burns collagen dressing is the best skin replacement
