Dr Abdul Majeed N Mulla, Dr Ishwar R Hosmani

Abstract :

Gall stone disease is most common disease in India since decades. Hyper saturation of cholesterol in the bile at the nucleation process has been postulated theory in the pathogenesis of the gall stones. Knowing the chemical composition of the stones will help us in planning treatment strategy. A cross sectional biochemical analysis was conducted on the stones retrieved from the patients of gall bladder disease. Different chemical were done in co ordination with the department of biochemistry and analysed. The demographic particulars were noted with all the chemical components. Cholesterol content is highest in cholesterol stones; Copper, Iron and Protein were highest in pigmented stones. Phosphate was highest among cholesterol stones. Magnesium, chloride, Bilirubin and triglycerides were highest among mixed stones. Calcium was almost equal among all the three types of stones.
