Changes in seed oil profile for niger seeds (Guizotia abyssinica) upon storage at different conditions
Jaya Singh Bisen
Abstract :
Guizotia abyssinica is a marginal oilseed crop, closely related to sunflower seeds. The changes in oil profile as a function of time were recorded using Gas Chromatography. The fatty acid profile were measured, and compared with seeds stored for six years in ambient conditions, as well as seeds stored under cold storage conditions with that of freshly harvested seeds. The results showed that the fatty acid profile under ambient storage conditions changed as a function of storage time. The percentage of oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolinic acid decreased under ambient conditions, while percentage of erucic acid increased with increase in storage time under ambient conditions
