Canalicular laceration in Indian children
Dr Prabha Gupta, Dr Rashmi Kujur
Abstract :
Canalicular laceration is one of the common injury seen in the pediatric age group. Common causes are blunt trauma or injury by sharp objects. Here we report cases of canalicular lacerations, majority of which caused by maternal blouse hook in east fed infants. The injury requires prompt surgical correction by an ophthalmologist. Poorly repaired wound or unrepaired wound run the risk of persistent epiphora in these patients. This injury can be prevented to some extent if we can incorporate ocular safety counseling to the mothers along with east feeding counseling during post partum period.
