Body Mass Index And Alcohol Consumption Influences (Physical Education)

Dumitrescu Remus

Abstract :

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relations between obesity, and alcohol consumption in students. In this study participated 319 students, 151 men and 168 women from the University of Bucharest in 2011-2012 academic year. BMI was used for the evaluation of the degree of total obesity, accordingly to the values for adults set by World Health Organisation. For the statistical analysis the statistic packet SPSS/PC version 15.0 for windows was used. Data analysis showed that the most subjects of the whole sample were drinking alcoholic beverages, while the ¼ of them were drinking many times per week. However, only a 14.8% of the subjects, in total, didn\'t drink alcoholic beverages at all. Finally, significant positive correlations between BMI and the times men and women were consuming alcohol are observed, indicating that as much the alcohol consumption is increased, BMI is, also, increased.
