Prof. Dr. V. Gopinath

Abstract :

Yoga is an ancient science practiced in India over thousands of years. It produces consistent neuro–physiological changes which have sound scientific basis. To achieve the purpose seventy five (N=75) yoga practicing boys selected by static group sampling method, and their age ranged from 19 to 25 years. All are studied at Annamalai University and resident in hostel. The selected subjects are regularly practiced asanas and Pranayamas for a minimum period of one year at yoga center, Annamalai University. They were segregated by their frequency (number of days/week) of yoga practices. Group – I (n=25) 5 sessions/week , Group – II (n=25) 4 sessions/week and Group – III (n=25) 3 sessions/week, each session consist of 75 minutes to 90 minutes. Blood samples were collected and hemoglobin was estimated by Acid Hematin method (4), at Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital, Annamalai University, India. The optioned data were treated with ANOVA, if the ‘F’ value is significant, scheffe’s post hoc test was employed to find out the paired mean differences and P.value ≤ 0.05 was considered to be statistical significant. The result shows that asanas and pranayamas practice of more session is directly related to the hemoglobin level of men.
