Pneumatization of Middle Turbinate; Prevalence and Significance : A Computed Tomographic Study.

Abstract :
Background and Purpose– Pneumatization of the middle turbinate (Concha bullosa) is one of the most common variation of the sinonasal anatomy. The purpose of our study is to analyze the prevalence of concha bullosa in Uttar Pradesh region. Materials and methods– Sinonasal computed tomographic images of 100 subjects were obtained from the Department of Radiodiagnosis, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow and were analyzed for the presence of concha bullosa. Results– Prevalence of concha bullosa was 24% (15% males and 9% females). We did not find any statistically significant difference in the prevalence of concha bullosa in males and females. Also, no correlation between age intervals and prevalence of concha bullosa was found.
