EVALUATION OF METABOLIC SYNDROME IN INDIAN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS: A HOSPITAL BASED STUDY
Dr P. K. Dash, Dr S. K. Jangid
Abstract :
Metabolic syndrome is a constellation of risk factors such as central obesity, increased blood pressure, impaired glucose tolerance, altered lipid profile mainly low high density lipoproteins (HDL) and high triglycerides which predispose the individual to increased risk for development of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases. The study subjects were examined and their laboratory investigations were carried out in a fasting state. The metabolic syndrome was highly prevalent in Indian hypertensive patients, especially in females. However, large–scale prospective studies are needed to verify these viewpoints.
