Correlation Between the Presence of Inguinal Hernias and the Intensity of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Related to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Abstract :

The studies showing the correlation of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) with Inguinal Hernias are scant in the world and in India. Hence this study was taken up in order to find the correlation between BPH, Inguinal Hernias and Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) related to BPH quantified through the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). This study has also tried to establish a strong relationship between the presence of Inguinal hernias and BPH. The study also ings to notice a relationship between Inguinal hernias and LUTS. LUTS was quantified using the 7 question International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and the patients were classified as having mild, moderate and severe symptoms. The role of IPSS as a clinical tool in the evaluation of patients with Inguinal Hernia and BPH cannot be emphasized more as the results of our study have demonstrated.
