Abstract :
A study tried to explore the distribution of ants in Reverine area, Cultivable lands and Industrial locatlities around Thanjavur and Cuddalore district. In this area, twenty one species of ants in fourteen genera were identified. These ant species belong to six Subfamilies; Ponerinae, Dorylinae, Pseudomymicinae, Myrmicinae, Formicinae and Dolichoderinae. The dominant genus was Camponoptus and Tetraponera. Among these three habitats, the similarity of ant species was highest between Riverine area and cultivable land. The dominance in Riverine area and cultivated area indicated that the genera Camponotus is most adapted genera in Riverine area and Cultivated area.
