Archana K

Abstract :

“The future of India lies in its villages”- Mahatma Gandhi. Almost half of the population in India lives in rural regions and mostly in a state of poverty. Such inequalities in human development have been one of the primary reasons for unrest. The village is the back bone of the country. Village or rural industries play an important role in the national economy, particularly in the rural development. Entrepreneurship is now regarded as a strategic development intervention that could accelerate the rural development process by institutions and individuals promoting rural development. Entrepreneurship stands as a vehicle to improve the quality of life for individuals, families and communities and to sustain a healthy economy and environment. Rural entrepreneurship is not only important as a means of generating employment opportunities in the rural areas with low capital cost and raising the real income of the people, but also its contribution to the development of agriculture and urban industries. Rural entrepreneurship can be considered one of the solutions to reduce poverty, migration, economic disparity, unemployment and develop rural areas and backward regions. Economic Development essentially means the process of upward change whereby the real per capita income of the country increases over a period of time. Entrepreneurship plays a vital role in economic development. Entrepreneurs serve as a catalyst in the process of industrialization and economic growth. The entrepreneur is the key to the creation of new enterprises that energizes the economy and rejuvenates the established enterprises that make up the economic structure
