Abstract :
Despite the significant contributions of agriculture in the overall economy of Ethiopia, its Productivity and yield per unit area is very low. Many factors contributed to ing up the Problem among which, moisture stress is to be cited. However, developing large scale irrigation is a costly alternative, which may require large quantity of capital resource. This is a difficult job to practice for the small scale resource poor Ethiopian farmers. The alternative, which may compromise the need for expanding irrigation and the capital shortage, may be promoting small scale irrigation schemes through practicing water harvesting. Therefore, the major concern of this study is to identify determinants of farmers’ response and willingness to participate in water harvesting practices and the choice decision among alternative water storage structure technology groups. The study is aimed at proposing or indicating policy measures for promotion and adoption of water harvesting activities.
