Abstract :

Non Communicable diseases (NCDs) are the fastest growing causes of morbidity and influencing factors need to be analysed. Objectives are to find the prevalence rate, examine the existence and strength of influencing factors of morbidity due to NCDs and to detect the disease clusters in rural Nagaland. This study is based on cross-sectional primary data. A sample of 5404 subjects was obtained using multistage sampling technique. Final analysis for NCDs was carried out with 3356 subjects who attained 20 years of age or more. The data were analysed by multivariate logistic regression. 56.99% of the total morbidity was due to NCDs. Leading causes were cardiovascular followed by diabetes mellitus and gastro-enteritis. Independent factors such as age, education, per capita income, marital status, body mass index and habit of smoking had significant influence on morbidity due to NCDs. Cases of morbidities were higher than expected in Dhansiripar Rural Development Block.
