Abstract :

 BACKGROUND

Atrial fiillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice, which is caused by various etiologies and it leads to morbidity and mortality.

AIM

1.      To know various clinical presentation of atrial fiillation.

2.      To know various etiologies of atrial fiillation.

3.      To know the relation between atrial fiillation and left atrial size.

METHODS AND MATERIAL:

The material of this study was patients attending the department of general medicine in collaboration with cardiology department, MMCH &RI ,Kanchipuram. The study group consists of 50 cases of atrial fiillation. A set of investigations were done to detect underlying causes and to know the left atrial size. Similar etiologies of AF and left atrial size is calculated.

RESULTS

Most commonclinical presentation was dyspnoea, chronic rheumatic heart disease was the most common underlying cause, left atrial size most commonly associated with AF was between 4 to 5.
